Ryszard Długopolski
President of the Foundation
Ryszard Długopolski is President of the Foundation for Heritage and Identity of Western Pomerania, and a researcher of folklore, history and the identity of the inhabitants of Western Pomerania in the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first centuries. For many years he has been active in documenting, protecting and popularising the material and intangible heritage of the region.
He is a co-creator of projects devoted to reconstructing the costumes and dances of Szczecin and Western Pomerania. Their aim is to restore memory of local traditions, customs, music, dance and historical forms of dress. His work combines source research with the practical reconstruction of regional culture, bringing it closer to contemporary residents of Western Pomerania.
He is the author of publications and books on the heritage and architecture of Western Pomerania, with particular attention to the interwar period and the post-war years. His interests include architectural and urban transformations of the region, as well as the social and cultural processes shaping its contemporary identity.
As a scriptwriter and creator of artistic events, he develops projects combining history, folklore, dance, music and performing arts. He is an instructor of folk dance and a dancer with the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Szczecin Region “Krąg”, complementing his research knowledge with many years of stage experience and practical knowledge of dance traditions.
Ryszard Długopolski is also an architect, expert appraiser and active professional designer. He uses his architectural experience in research on the history of buildings, heritage protection and spatial transformations of Western Pomerania. By combining scholarly, artistic, social and professional activity, he consistently works to preserve regional memory and build a conscious community rooted in history.
